1986

Okan Culture, Education and Sports Foundation was established in 1986 in order to conduct research and studies on sports, health and education problems in social, cultural and economic fields, to prepare proposals for solving problems within the integrity of the country and to assist the state in solving them.

1999

Istanbul Okan University, one of the youngest and most dynamic universities in Turkey, was officially established in 1999 by the Okan Culture, Education and Sports Foundation.

2003

Istanbul Okan University started its education in the academic year 2003-2004.
During the 2003-2004 academic year, the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture were opened, and the Institutes of Social Sciences and Natural Sciences were established in the same academic year.
Our students have succeeded in entering our programs among the first 1100 candidates and our university has entered the top 7 among foundation universities. Decatur University has been established in the first 1100 programs. Decatur University has been established in the first 1100 programs.
In the year of establishment, 23 students with 4 scholarships, 19 paid, 18 students with 13 paid, 5 scholarships to the Department of Psychology, 5 scholarships to the Department of Business Administration, 26 students with 21 paid, 5 scholarships to the School of Tourism and Hotel Management, a total of 87 students with 18 students with 13 paid, entered the Department of English Translation and Interpretation of the university.
Istanbul Okan University, which has been promoting itself with the slogan “The University Closest to the Age of Work” since its establishment, has provided internship opportunities to its students in many fields and has signed cooperation projects with Türk Telekom AŞ and DEIK in relation to industrial cooperation.
OKSEM continuing education center started its operations in January 2004.

2004

German Russian Translation and Interpreting, Industrial Engineering and International Trade Departments started teaching in the 2004-2005 academic year.
In the 2004-2005 academic year, our university was preferred by the students who were among the top 400 in the Turkish ranking, Dec 3 among the universities that received students from the top 2000 with language score. he managed to get in line.
The Faculty of Fine Arts was opened on June 3, 2005.

2006

Our university, which is growing rapidly, has been settled in the new and modern Tuzla Campus since the 2006-2007 academic year. Tuzla Campus, which stands out with its contemporary architecture, has all the features that a modern university should have. Tuzla Campus is equipped with modern classrooms, computer and technical laboratories, library, conference halls, sports centers, cafeterias and restaurants that will enable students to study in the most efficient way. The campus also offers different facilities with its proximity to Sabiha Gökçen Airport and the F1 Track.

2007

Istanbul Okan University, acting under the motto of ’The Closest University to Business Life', graduated its first graduates in the 20 Dec – 2007 academic year; Our university, which prepares its students for business life from the first grade with its expert academic staff, modern approach to education, combines theory and practice with practical studies, has also realized this claim by bringing all of its graduates into business life.
In 2007, Istanbul Okan University School of Applied Sciences was opened and started to recruit students.
in the 2007-2008 academic year, a new teaching building was opened and the course ‘Business World and Entrepreneurship in Turkey’ was added to the curriculum of the department of business administration.
Aiming to create a bridge between education and the business world, Istanbul Okan University allows its students to take Deceptions in enterprises starting from the first grade within the scope of the Business Life Preparation Program. Thus, students get to know business life, gain motivation as well as increasing their knowledge and skills by establishing a Decoupling between theory and practice. Participation certificates are given to students who have successfully completed the Business Life Preparation Program, and certificates related to work experience are also added to their diplomas when they graduate.

2008

The Social Center, which was put into operation in 2008, has a pocket cinema, sauna, cafeterias, cocktail lounge, shopping center, club rooms. A sports center for 400 people has been opened in the Life Center building of our university for students to develop themselves. The sports center, where there is a fitness room, swimming pool, tennis court, basketball, volleyball, football fields, is designed for students to make the most of their free time.
in the 2008-2009 academic year, the Faculty of Law and the Vocational School started education with 29 departments, including formal and secondary education.
At our university, a joint program has been started, which is available only in 3 universities, thus a structure has been created that allows students to save time while choosing the departments they want.
The School of Health Sciences was established on 18.08.2009 as the first person of Istanbul Okan University's move to reach important dimensions in the field of health in later years.

2010

in 2009-2010, the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture building and the Faculty of Fine Arts – School of Applied Sciences buildings were completed and education started from the new buildings.
Russian Chinese exam center has become Istanbul Okan University has signed cooperation protocols with Franklin University, Ball State University and three Chinese universities and has continued its international breakthrough this year.
Our university was ranked 4th in the 2009-2010 period.he has given the graduates of the semester.
The Exam Diary program on CNN Turk, which was realized this year and supported by our university as a social responsibility project, has opened the horizons of many students by receiving wide support from the public.

2011

On December 19, 2011, the first Russian Cultural center of Istanbul was opened at Okan University with a ceremony held at Istanbul Okan University Tuzla Campus.
The Autonomous Driverless Vehicle, which was test-driven at the Tuzla Campus of Istanbul Okan University in June 2011, has been successfully completed its first rounds.
The Faculty of Education of Istanbul Okan University was established on 26.10.2011.

2012

Istanbul Okan University hosted the International Finance Congress, the second of which was held on June 13-14, 2012, and Istanbul's goals and strategies for becoming a financial center were discussed at the congress.
in 2012, the educational life of the Institute of Health Sciences, which will conduct master's and doctoral programs, and the Vocational School of Health Services, which will conduct Associate's degree programs, were started at Istanbul Okan University.

2013

Following the opening ceremony of the 2013-2014 Academic Year with a ceremony held at Tuzla Campus on September 16, 2013, the groundbreaking ceremony of Turkey's first Medical and Health Sciences Education Complex, which will host the Faculties of Medicine and Dentistry, was held.
On December 16, 2013, Istanbul Okan University Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry was opened for education and training.

2014

Istanbul Okan University continued its academic year 2014-2015 with 8 faculties (Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Engineering-Architecture, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Faculty of Fine Arts, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences), 2 schools (School of Health Sciences, School of Applied Sciences) and 2 vocational schools (Vocational School of Health Services, Vocational School).
Istanbul Okan University has made history as the first Turkish University to have ISO 27001 International Information Security Standard with all the measures it has taken to protect the confidentiality and integrity of information on its campuses and ensure that it is constantly accessible.
Istanbul Okan University 15. he was proud to open the Faculty of Dentistry Training and Practice Hospital on the anniversary of its establishment.
The Faculty of Dentistry, which received its first students together with the Faculty of Medicine in the 2014 - 2015 academic year, has accelerated health education with its respected academic staff and educational infrastructure equipped with the latest technology.

2015

With the Meral Okan Student Dormitory, which was built in addition to 4 dormitory buildings, 2 of which are for girls and 2 for boys, at Istanbul Okan University Tuzla Campus, the capacity of the dormitories at our Tuzla Campus reached a total of 1500 students in the October 2015-2016 Academic Year. There are study rooms, dining hall, cafeteria and cleaning service, laundry, security team providing day and night dormitory security, infirmary with a doctor at all times, wired and wireless internet system in the dormitories.
Istanbul Okan University has opened a conservatory again this year and has laid the foundation of Istanbul Okan University Faculty of Medicine Training and Research Hospital.

2016

Istanbul Okan University Hospital, which was opened in November 2016, was established on a closed area of 50 thousand square meters. there are 10 operating rooms and 47 adult and intensive care units, IVF unit, invasive radiology unit, outpatient clinics and clinics in the hospital with a capacity of 250 beds. Istanbul Okan University Hospital provides theoretical courses and patient examination and treatment applications in the clinic to its students before and after graduation.

2017

Faculty of Dentistry Hospital, which was opened in Tuzla in 2017, started to provide service with 140 units in a closed area of 8 thousand m2 with its state-of-the-art infrastructure. Acıbadem Polyclinic, established on a closed area of 2200 m2, was opened in connection with Istanbul Okan University Hospital. The School of Applied Sciences, which was opened in 2008, became the Faculty of Applied Sciences in 2018.

2018

Bekir Okan Art, Culture and Congress Center, which houses a multi-purpose conference hall for 1550 people, a 4-storey library and an exhibition hall, was inaugurated.

2019

Our Vocational School has been moved to our Tuzla Campus.

2020

The Institute of Social Sciences, the Institute of Natural Sciences, the Institute of Health Sciences have been merged under the roof of the Graduate Education Institute Directorate.

2021

The name of our Faculty of Engineering has been changed to the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences.

2023

Our university has been granted the right to receive accreditation within the scope of the Higher Education Quality Board (YÖKAK) Institutional Accreditation Program.
Our university has been included in the Turquality Brand Support Program.
Our Career and Life Program, which was launched at our University for the first time in Turkey, has been approved by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office.

2024

Our Faculty of Pharmacy has been established.
The opening of the Open Innovation Autonomous Vehicle Development and Testing Platform Project, which is carried out by our university, was held with the participation of the Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacir.
Our university is 25. In its year, it has reached 20 thousand students and 55 thousand graduates with more than 250 programs in 11 Faculties, 2 Vocational Schools, Conservatories, Graduate Education Institute.
