İstanbul Bilgi University
Istanbul Bilgi University was founded in 1996 by an entrepreneurial and young team with the aim of “bringing a new breath to university education in Turkey”. He started his educational life with a core group that brought together bright and well-known, experienced academics of the Decadent period. Aiming to be a good world university at international standards from the very beginning, BILGI has prepared the educational and curricular infrastructure in cooperation with the London School of Economics and Political Sciences and the University of Portsmouth, affiliated to the University of London.
In a very short period of time for a university, BILGI, with its academic staff, libertarian approach and traditions that embrace equal respect for every thought, has created an important, valuable and original place for itself in the higher education community of Turkey.
At Istanbul Bilgi University, where I joined the academic staff very early, I have assumed the Rectorship for a second semester with pride and awareness of the responsibility demanded by the task.
The basic functioning of a good university rises above a quadruple structure. The first and perhaps the most important is to provide students with a sound, qualified education, to ensure that the instructor and the student are always close, to be able to really apply a formation called “student-oriented”.
The second important dimension is to prepare graduates well for business life and the professional world intellectually, humanistically and culturally. In the USA, university graduation is called “commencement”. This threshold, called a new start in life, is the beginning of a period when other struggles exist and will be given, unlike family life and education. In order to be successful in this process, the university should focus on the qualities of its students that need to be developed outside the curriculum.
The third dimension is the goal of the academic staff of the University to always improve themselves through national and international research and projects, to contribute to the world academia, to be constantly involved in developments. This kind of mutual intellectual and academic nutrition constitutes a very important dimension that develops the administrative staff of a university in a number of areas, such as academics and students.
The fourth important dimension is the social and social responsibility dimension of the functioning of a university. Universities, with their projects, certificate programs, field studies, conferences, public interest activities, museums and events such as exhibitions, should always maintain the goal of both intellectual enrichment and social service by bringing science and art to other segments of society as well as to the university environment in the richness of different perspectives.
As Istanbul Bilgi University, we are proud of creating a “tradition” that covers all of these dimensions in a short period of time. The extensive and long-term academic cooperation we have recently realized with Arizona State University allows us to look forward to the future with confidence by making our traditions even deeper, more solid and lasting.
Aiming to strengthen its respected place in Turkey's university life with the understanding of ”learning for life, not for school", Istanbul Bilgi University, today with more than 60 thousand graduates, more than 20 thousand students, more than 1000 academic staff, as a university that keeps its traditions alive, maintains and develops, can and will continue to look to the future with confidence.
Non scholae, sed vitae discimus'
(We should learn for life, not for school)
Istanbul Bilgi University, which started with the principle of 'non scholae, sed vitae discimus' (We should learn for life, not for school), took its place as a Foundation University within the Turkish University System as an institution with a public legal entity with the application made by the Bilgi Education and Culture Foundation on June 7, 1996 and with the law No. 4142 adopted by the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.
Kuştepe and Dolapdere Campuses
Since its establishment, Istanbul Bilgi University has been contributing to its students and academic life in Turkey on a total area of approximately 210,000 m2 on 3 campuses, namely Kuştepe, Dolapdere and Santralistanbul, which it has incorporated in various processes.
Istanbul Bilgi University, which has achieved many firsts in Turkey in 23 years, entered into a long-term cooperation with Laureate Education, one of the largest international education networks in the world, with the goals of improving the quality of education and research between 2006 and 2019 and becoming a university that can compete with the world in Turkey, and became a part of this network. Dec. in 2019, Can Holding joined the support group of the Bilgi Culture and Education Foundation Dec.

Today, BILGI, which has more than 20,000 students, more than 60,000 graduates, more than 1,000 academic staff, continues to teach with more than 150 programs that provide undergraduate, graduate and associate degree education in 8 faculties, 3 institutes and 3 vocational schools.

Campuses
Istanbul Bilgi University has three campuses: Kuştepe, Dolapdere and santralistanbul. The campuses in the city center offer a university life that is very colorful from a social and cultural point of view and full of different opportunities and activities.
santralistanbul Campus
It is located on a 118-acre green area on the banks of the Golden Horn; easily accessible from every part of the city; where culture, art and education are intertwined; a campus where Turkey's first power plant buildings were converted and opened for education and which houses the Energy Museum in its current form.
Dolapdere Campus
A campus that won the “Building and Living Environment” award in 2002, 10 minutes from Taksim, the center of events, entertainment, and city life.
Kuştepe Campus
A campus in the center of Istanbul, a 5-minute drive from Mecidiyeköy and Şişli, very close to the business world.
