Bahçeşehir University (BAU) is a university worthy of the slogan ”In the Heart of Istanbul"... There is an activity that starts early in the day and lasts almost a full day at the main campus on the edge of the Bosphorus in Beşiktaş. Moreover, it is possible to come across an event at almost any point of the university.
The first thing that catches your eye when you enter the door of BAU will be the large number of foreign students at our university. More than a thousand foreign students from a wide geography ranging from the United States to China, from France to South Korea study at BAU. When you ask why they prefer BAU, the answers are the same: “Its central location and international strength”. BAU's position is obvious. In order to understand their work in the international field, it will be enough to take a short tour of our university campus or our website.
BAU provides its students with the opportunity to study in many different parts of the world through various agreements and collaborations. Moreover, it does this in cities where BAU Global member institutions are located, such as Berlin, Toronto, Washington DC, Batumi, Cyprus, Hanoi, Kiev, Pueblo, Brockville. The ”International Office" unit provides all program-related support to students who want to continue their education at BAU Global campuses. At BAU, you have the opportunity to take a course related to your department in Istanbul or Berlin, Batumi or at member institutions of the BAU Global Education Network in Washington, DC. You also have the opportunity to apply to BAU's overseas summer programs towards the end of each academic year. Moreover, BAU Global's summer abroad programs are open not only to our own students, but also to students from all over the world!
Transportation to BAU is quite easy. Dec Galata Besiktas North, Besiktas South, Goztepe and Galata campuses, located in the Heart of Istanbul, provide free transportation to our students and academics by our own boats. It is possible to reach our other campus in Galata with a pleasant journey with these boats that depart from our pier in Beşiktaş at certain times of the day. Thus, our students can move from campus to campus without getting stuck in the busy Istanbul traffic, moreover, by taking in the sea air. Our campus in Galata hosts the works of the Faculty of Communication in the field of new media in particular. There are many workshops in Galata, from digital media to tablet publishing, again from the digital game workshop to the news desk where the basics of journalism are learned.
At BAU, programs are organized not only for students, but also for graduates and graduate candidates. The BAU family, which grows every passing year with the trainings and events organized by our Alumni Office throughout the year, maintains strong ties even after graduation.

History of Bahçeşehir University
Bahçeşehir University was founded by Bahçeşehir-Uğur Education Foundation on 18.01.1998 in Istanbul. The university started accepting students in the 1999-2000 academic year. The first campus of the university was in Bahçeşehir region. as of 2004, all units of the university were moved to the Besiktas Campus.
Dates of Establishment of Faculties and Institutes
- Faculty of Communication, Faculty of Business Administration (became Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences in 2013), Faculty of Arts and Sciences (closed in 2014), Faculty of Engineering (became Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences in 2013), School of Tourism Management and Hotel Management (changed to Vocational School in 2000) and Institute of Social Sciences were opened on 18.01.1998.
- The Faculty of Law was opened on 17.05.2000
- The Faculty of Architecture was opened in 2001. (it became the Faculty of Architecture and Design in 2008)
- The School of Applied Sciences was opened on 13.03.2007
- The Faculty of Educational Sciences and the Institute of Educational Sciences were opened on 22.12.2011.
- The Faculty of Health Sciences was opened on 28.01.2012.
- The Institute of Health Sciences was opened on 10.09.2012.
- The Faculty of Medicine received its first student in 2013.
- The Vocational School of Health Services was opened on 13.03.2014.
- The School of Foreign Languages was opened on 26.08.2014.
- The Faculty of Dentistry was opened on 11.03.2017.
- The conservatory was opened on 05.03.2020.
- Graduate Education Institute was opened on 09.05.2020.
- The Faculty of Pharmacy was opened on 08.03.2022.
Opening Dates of the Campuses
Bahçeşehir campus, the first campus of the university, was opened on 18.01.1998. Later, it was moved from this campus to Besiktas campus.
